5 Ways to Enjoy Thanksgiving as a Muslim-American

Thanksgiving is right around the corner; an American holiday filled with parties and tons of food at the table. While it’s not a Muslim holiday, why not take advantage of the day off? Here’s how you can fully enjoy this upcoming Thanksgiving break.

1. Take It as Another Family Gathering

Many Americans take Thanksgiving as a day to be with the people that they love. If a neighbor or family member invites you over for a party, (especially if they make sure all the food is halal) feel free to attend and enjoy the festivities. Think of it as a gathering with family and friends, and the day will be lighter and more fun.

2. Taste New Thanksgiving Dishes

Thanksgiving party hosts usually pull all the stops at the dining table – usually serving their best Turkey dish, amazing sides, and mouthwatering desserts. It’s a great time to taste new recipes and possibly experience something new food-wise.

3. Share Thankfulness

The essence of the holiday is to celebrate one’s bountiful harvest and other blessings received for the past year. Not far from one of Islam’s highest virtues, showing gratitude, right? What better way to practice your belief than by sharing what you’re thankful for with others during a Thanksgiving meal.

4. Extend A Kind Gesture

If attending parties are not your thing, you can also ask your local mosque or Muslim organization if they’re doing any activities during the holiday. Some may have a scheduled food or donation drive that you can participate in. Showing an act of kindness can make Thanksgiving more memorable to someone, and a good practice of faith.

5. Snuggle at Home This Thanksgiving

There’s nothing wrong with just spending the day at your ijara home with the family if that’s your thing. Whether it’s getting some cleaning done, working on a hobby, or snuggling with the kids on the couch while eating some chips, it will be time well spent.

Thanksgiving is a fun day to either be with relatives, friends, or with your family. Feel free to celebrate the day any way you want, as long as you’re having fun.

To all Muslim Americans reading this, Happy Thanksgiving from ijaraCDC!
